Namibia Breweries sets the record straight on Brave Warriors Sponsorship
In response to the article in the Namibian newspaper headlined: “Heineken dribbles Brave Warriors” on Friday 21 June 2024, Namibia Breweries Limited (NBL) would like to make the following facts clear.
The first point of correction is the headline is factually incorrect and must be clarified that it NBL has been in negotiations with the Namibia Football Association (NFA) and not Heineken.
Secondly, NBL has not withdrawn its sponsorship from Brave Warriors as reported last week, as we are still under negotiation phase. As a corporate citizen, NBL has been sponsoring the national soccer team under our Tafel Lager brand for many years.
Hereby a statement from the President of the NFA in his response letter to NBL regarding this matter: “The NFA wishes to confirm that the partnership between the Football Association and NBL, through its Tafel Lager brand sponsorship, is excellent and at its best.” – Robert Shimooshili, President of the Namibia Football Association.
Since the contract expired in June 2023, we have been in negotiation with NFA to partner with them under a mutually beneficial “win-win” relationship for both parties as it does not make business sense to support the national soccer team without local games in the country.
It must be further noted that NBL sponsored N$2-million in support of the team playing at the AFCON Cup 2024 Games in January this year and once again shows our support for soccer in Namibia.
As a proudly local business, NBL remains committed to investing in initiatives and development to instil a sense of pride in Namibians.
